Wash Guide

Your HNDRD. AMSTERDAM garments are crafted from premium heavyweight cotton and finished with high-quality printing designed to last. To preserve the softness of the fabric and the vibrancy of every design, proper care is essential. Follow the steps below to keep your pieces looking and feeling their best, wash after wash.

Machine Washing: To protect your prints and maintain fabric quality, follow these steps when machine washing. The goal is to minimize friction, heat and chemical stress that can weaken fibers or damage prints over time.

  • Turn inside-out before washing to protect the design from rubbing against other fabrics
  • Wash cold at 30°C / 86°F — hot water can shrink cotton and fade inks
  • Use a gentle cycle to reduce stress on fibers and prevent cracking or peeling of prints
  • Choose a mild detergent and avoid bleach, strong stain removers or harsh chemicals
  • Wash with similar fabrics and keep away from heavy items like jeans or towels
  • For extra protection, place the garment in a mesh laundry bag to reduce abrasion

Hand Washing: Hand washing is the gentlest method and is recommended for maximum longevity. It minimizes mechanical stress and keeps prints looking sharp.

  • Fill a basin with cold water to avoid shrinking and fading
  • Add a small amount of mild detergent — avoid bleach or fabric softeners
  • Turn the garment inside-out before washing
  • Gently swirl the garment without scrubbing or wringing
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove all detergent and prevent buildup
  • Press out excess water with your hands or a towel — never wring

Drying: Drying correctly prevents shrinkage and keeps your print looking sharp.

  • Air dry where possible — lay flat or hang on a wide hanger in the shade, as direct sunlight can fade prints
  • If machine drying is necessary, turn inside-out, use the lowest heat setting and remove promptly when dry
  • Always avoid high heat as it damages cotton fibers and weakens prints over time

Ironing & Steaming: Wrinkles are normal with cotton. Remove them safely to avoid damaging the print.

  • Always iron inside-out on a low heat setting, with a thin cloth between the iron and fabric
  • Never iron directly over the design
  • Light steaming inside-out is safe — avoid holding steam directly over the print for too long
  • Hang garments immediately after washing to let wrinkles fall out naturally

Following these guidelines will help maintain the vibrancy, softness and longevity of your HNDRD. AMSTERDAM pieces.
